Join us for a master class with acclaimed television showrunner Gary Lennon (POWER, P-TOWN). Gary will detail his career trajectory, from playwright to showrunner, and how writing diverse characters in diverse writing rooms has shaped his work. For this event, Gary will be in conversation with PUSSY VALLEY showrunner Katori Hall.

ABOUT GARY LENNON

Gary Lennon is an award-winning playwright, showrunner, producer, writer, and director. He is currently the co-showrunner of POWER and the showrunner of P-TOWN. Both are series for Starz, with whom he has an overall deal.

Lennon began his career in theater. His play The Interlopers received three Ovation nominations and two NAACP nominations, and was an LA Times Critics Pick. His play A Family Thing was also an LA Times Critics Pick, earning six LA Weekly and two Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Nominations.

Lennon’s work as a writer on JUSTIFIED earned him a Peabody Award, a WGA Award, an AFI Award, and a Critic’s Choice Nomination. His work as a writer on ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK earned him an Emmy nomination, a Peabody Award, a PGA Award, and a WGA Nomination.

Lennon made his directorial feature debut with his film .45, and his television directorial debut with the fifth season’s penultimate episode of POWER, which he also wrote. He recently sold his play Change for a feature adaptation, which will go into production in 2019 with director Brian Percival. Another of his plays is being adapted as a feature, retitled as A FAMILY FILM. He is also set to executive produce EUPHORIA for HBO in 2019.

ABOUT KATORI HALL

Katori Hall is an Olivier Award-winning playwright from Memphis, Tennessee and the showrunner of PUSSY VALLEY, a new Starz series based on her play of the same name. She also wrote the book for Tina, the hit West End musical based on the life and catalog of Tina Turner.

Katori’s play The Mountaintop, premiering at Theatre503 in 2009, transferred to the West End and won the Olivier Award for Best New Play in 2010. Following its West End run, the play opened on Broadway in October 2011 to critical acclaim. Katori’s other work includes the award-winning Hurt Village which is currently in development as a feature film.

Three-Strike Rule

We understand that unplanned issues can come up and you may need to cancel your attendance at an event. If that happens, you must provide adequate notice of your cancellation or else you will incur a late-cancellation penalty.

For evening events, you must cancel your reservation by 9:00am on the day of the event to avoid a penalty.

For mid-day events, unless otherwise specified, you must cancel with at least 24 hours’ notice to avoid a penalty.

Cancellations must be made by email; phone cancellations will not be accepted.

After missing three screenings without sending a cancellation notice to events@wgaeast.org within the defined window, you will be notified that you have been placed on a three-month hiatus from attending WGAE screenings.

Please note that is your responsibility to track your reservations and strikes. You will only be notified upon your third and final strike that you have been placed on hiatus.
