Candidate for Council, Broadcast/Cable/Streaming News Sector
My name is Selena Simmons. I am a broadcast designer for “World News Tonight” at ABC News and freelance for various shows for CBS News, when needed. Currently, I serve as a volunteer CBS Diversity Committee member where I aide the company in changing policies to reflect a righteous perspective based on gender, culture, etc.
Over the years, I have met with the Viacom/CBS legal executives to discuss how we can create a righteous and good corporate setting for all. Through this process, I have learned more about negotiation. I also found that finding common ground in truth helps eliminate differences and fosters a unified environment. I know these skills will help me in other areas like the WGAE Council.
Throughout my time at CBS News, I have championed for other causes like public health and safety. The pandemic was something that put everyone in new and uncharted territory. I felt it necessary to keep others safe by raising concerns about cleaning practices and the efficacy of products, which through the unified concerns allowed us to work from home at that time.
It was a surprise to be nominated again for a WGAE Council member seat. I hope to bring the same intensity, clarity and wisdom to the WGAE Council seat, if elected. I would love to get involved to further move the needle in making change where rewards have no sorrow. Wage equality and safe workspaces are issues that are very dear to me.
I look forward to gaining your support in making our union a powerhouse in effective change.
