Beth Godvik

Candidate for Council, Broadcast/Cable/Streaming News Sector

I’m proud to have served on the council for 2 years and I hope you will elect me to another 2 year term.

Journalism is dealing with major changes as we face a crucial time in our country. Our product may come in different forms, but our challenges are similar.

During my time on the council, I’ve tried to be both a leader and a supporter for our entire union. I’ve chaired a union committee, led a social media charge during company negotiations, engaged other unions like SAG-AFTRA, IBEW and DGA for their support, spoke to the U.S. Department of Labor, and walked the picket lines with my screenwriter union members to show solidarity. I’m well versed in the issues we’re facing and ready to take on the challenges ahead.

I’ve worked as a newswriter/producer at CBS News Chicago (WBBM-TV) for 20 years, served on 3 negotiating committees and been the co-steward for our newsroom. I helped organize our streaming producers at CBS News Chicago and pushed to unionize other shops (cable, digital & broadcast). I believe it’s essential as the lines between digital and broadcast become even more blurred. It’s already happening. And I know we are stronger together as we face companies that undervalue our work and try to divide us. By coming together, we create solutions which make situations better for all involved.

I hope you will support me and I encourage you to vote for Gail Lee and Justin DiLauro for council. They are great partners who speak up for members and share their experience to help guide our union..
