Candidate for Council, Film/TV/Streaming Sector
I’m running for WGAE Council in the Film/TV/Steaming Sector. When I joined the Guild, I imagined all the real work had been done. The Age of Peak TV; the Golden Age of Writers. The strike proved otherwise. I came into the WGAE after 12 years in the NewsGuild, where I got my first taste of picket lines. I thought I knew what I was getting into when I volunteered as a strike captain. On our picket lines, what I quickly discovered was the uniquely vibrant community that sets our Guild apart. The opportunities to educate, connect, and support our members continuously surpassed my expectations. The profound sense of community in the WGAE is special. It’s why I accepted the nomination to run.
In the aftermath of the strike, our industry is a mess. Whether it’s the 30-year veteran suddenly facing an unprecedented drought or the young writer who finally broke in, only to find a ghost town; we’re all living in a new era. As an inaugural student in the WGAE’s Showrunners Workshop and as a mentor in the Guild’s New Member Mentorship program, I’ve experienced first-hand the value of our union’s educational resources. In Guild salons, I’ve heard junior writers wondering if they have a future in the industry at all, lamenting the absence of guidance from their industry elders. Losing a generation of labor is something no union can survive, particularly ours. Education. Connection. Support. These are the qualities that make our Guild special, and what I want to strengthen as a member of the Council, through programming, community-building, mentorship and outreach.
Let’s build a better Guild together.
