WGA East and FilmNation Entertainment Set Third NY Screenwriting Fellowship

NEW YORK, NY (March 11, 2025) – The Writers Guild of America East and FilmNation Entertainment announce the third New York Screenwriting Fellowship.

The New York Screenwriting Fellowship is for early-career, greater New York City-based screenwriters who are underrepresented in the film industry and have demonstrated a rigorous commitment to their craft.

Up to eight writers will be provided with both a screenwriting mentor and an executive mentor, as well as seminars, receptions, and other introductions, as they develop a new feature length screenplay during the Fellowship period. To learn more about the application process, please visit the New York Screenwriting Fellowship landing page here.

“We thank and praise FilmNation for continuing to help us lift up underrepresented voices in film,” said WGAE President Lisa Takeuchi Cullen. “It is not lost on us that this program is launching against the backdrop of major media companies ending their DEI initiatives to appease the Trump administration. The Writers Guild of America East remains dedicated to furthering inclusion in the media and entertainment industries.”

Glen Basner, FilmNation’s CEO and Founder, said, “The New York Screenwriting Fellowship has become part of the fabric of FilmNation over these last few years. We are thrilled to team up with WGA East again this year to shepherd in the next cohort of talented screenwriters. Our team finds the talent, commitment and passion of these aspiring writers and their generous mentors to be an inspiration for all the storytelling we are doing ourselves.”

Final Draft is serving as the sponsor of the 2025 Fellowship and will provide Fellowship participants with Final Draft 13 screenwriting software and other promotional materials.
