CBS News Workers Begin Negotiations on New Union Contract
NEW YORK and LOS ANGELES (March 10, 2025) – Writers Guild of America East (WGAE) and Writers Guild of America West (WGAW) members at CBS News today began negotiations with management on a new collective bargaining agreement.
The 270-plus member bargaining unit includes newswriters, producers, promotions writer-producers, editors, graphic artists, and news desk associates based in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington D.C.
Highly-skilled WGA members are seeking meaningful wage increases, increased contributions to health care benefits, AI protections, improved severance and protections for the union’s jurisdiction, among other workplace protections.
The CBS News negotiations committee said, “As we begin negotiations with CBS News, we are committed to securing a strong deal that ensures competitive compensation and job security for all our members. We recognize the evolving nature of the broadcast industry and aim to protect both the quality of our work and the well-being of our union. This contract is an opportunity to expand our strong foundation for the future of journalism, setting a positive example for the industry.”

Guild members at CBS News are mobilized and ready to win a fair new contract.”
The Writers Guild of America East (WGAE) and the Writers Guild of America West (WGAW) are labor unions representing writers in motion pictures, television, news, podcasts, and online media.
