WGA East Applauds Reintroduction of Performing Artist Tax Parity Act (PATPA) in U.S. House of Representative
NEW YORK, NY (January 28, 2025)—The following is a statement from the Writers Guild of America East (WGAE) about the the reintroduction of the Performing Artist Tax Parity Act (PATPA) in the U.S. House of Representatives:
“The WGAE applauds the bipartisan reintroduction of the Performing Artist Tax Parity Act (PATPA) in the U.S. House of Representatives. This legislation is critical to writers and other entertainment professionals who, under the 2017 tax cuts, are not permitted to deduct mandatory, non-reimbursed work-related expenses such as business travel, writing software and equipment, and agent and manager fees. This is an unfair tax penalty on working writers that can cost individuals and families thousands of dollars each year. Thank you to Representatives Vern Buchanan and Judy Chu for addressing this financial burden that serves only as a barrier to entry for the entertainment industry’s middle and working class.”
