The Writers Guild of America East invites members to attend events happening in Los Angeles and online this month.

The calendar below includes information on screenings, panels and committee meetings taking place in October.

RSVPs are not required for screenings at the Writers Guild Theater. You only need your Guild membership card to attend all screenings. All screenings take place at the Writers Guild Theater (135 S. Doheny Dr., Beverly Hills) and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Unless otherwise specified, you can bring up to TWO guests to screenings. Expect a silent auction, special appearances, and of course, great comedy from stand-ups and alumni of the program. All proceeds benefit the Veterans Writing Project. Our lineup includes Adam Conover (Adam Ruins Everything, The Crystal Maze), Grace Freud (Rick & Morty, The Eric Andre Show), Vinny Thomas (Platonic, After Midnight), and the Vets With Benefits sketch group, including Addison Blu, Y’Dhanna Daniels, Travis Diffenderfer, Travis Kehoe, Brian McDevitt Jr., Harsha Rao, and Tracy Thompson. WGAW’s Writers Education Committee has a broad mandate to develop programs that provide Guild members with practical, inside knowledge about how the industry works and how it is changing, emphasizing tips and tools to help writers succeed. The goal is to provide working knowledge for writers.

The Writers Guild Foundation’s annual two-day writing conference, WGFestival, returns Friday, November 15 – Saturday, November 16. Featuring the film and TV industry’s best and brightest writers and producers, WGFestival is packed with panels and interactive workshops focused on the craft and business of screenwriting. All programming will be held virtually on RingCentral, so you can watch sessions and meet fellow scribes through group networking sessions and one-on-one video chat. Its mandate is to encourage Latinx writers to become more active within the Guild; and to raise the profile and perception of Latinx writers in the industry at large by creating forums that foster networking, collaboration, education, information exchange, employment opportunities and creative expression. Established in 1977.

The Writers Guild of America West’s LGBTQ+ Writers Committee seeks to utilize its constituency as a resource to all writers who include LGBTQ+ characters in their work. Its members also wish to provide cultural and educational opportunities for WGAW members to nurture an understanding of how sexual orientation and gender identity affect the lives of writers; endeavor to provide networking and social activities enabling the WGAW membership to better know one another and create a greater demand for the writing services of LGBTQ+ WGAW members; and strive to generate a greater awareness within the Guild of sexual orientation (and gender identity) as a minority and, where appropriate, to identify and advocate against instances of homophobia, transphobia and/or discrimination within our industry. Established in 2002.

AAWC Remote Work Panel

The Asian American Writers Committee invites you and a guest to a webinar event to discuss all things happening for the writer in a post-Covid Zoom world. The first third of the panel will focus on showrunners running a remote room and how that’s different from running a room in person. Secondly, we’ll focus on the pluses and minuses of working in a remote writer’s room. We’ll finish the webinar with a discussion on having/maintaining a career remotely from outside Los Angeles and NYC. Panelists: Kara Lee Corthorn (Servant), Noah Griffith (Sweet Tooth), Raelle Tucker (The Power), Richard Manus (Grown-ish), Steven White (Grown-ish) and Charles Yu (Interior Chinatown). Moderator: Kim Lee Winslow.
