In front of a live (virtual) audience of Guild members, four writers will have the opportunity to pitch to producers. Each writer will be given constructive feedback and advice on moving their project forward. This is a great opportunity to learn how to hone your presentation and properly present an idea in front of influential producers in a safe space.

 

About the Panelists:

Franklin Leonard is a film and television producer, cultural commentator, and entrepreneur. He is the founder and CEO of the Black List, a company dedicated to identifying and supporting remarkable screenwriting and screenwriters through its annual survey, online marketplace, grants, labs, and fellowships.

Leonard has worked in feature film development at Universal Pictures and the production companies of Will Smith, Sydney Pollack & Anthony Minghella, and Leonardo DiCaprio. He’s been a juror at the Sundance, Toronto, and Mumbai film festivals. In 2019, the Writers Guild of America East (WGAE) presented him with the Evelyn Burkey award for elevating the honor and dignity of screenwriters.

Cara Masline is an Emmy Award nominated producer.

Derek Nguyen is an award-winning writer, director, and producer. He wrote and directed THE HOUSEMAID (CÔ HẦU GÁI) which was released theatrically by IFC Films and 22 countries around the world. His shorts THE POTENTIAL WIVES OF NORMAN MAO (with George Takei) and THE RESEMBLANCE (Netflix) have won awards in multiple film festivals. He is a founding partner at the production company The Population, which produced SWALLOW, I CARRY YOU WITH ME, CATCH THE FAIR ONE, and SOMEWHERE QUIET. He was on the producing teams for THE TALE (starring Laura Dern), LOVESONG, BUSTER’S MAL HEART (starring Rami Malek), among others.

Dr. Jennifer E. Turner Working on both the business and creative sides of television, Dr. Jennifer Turner has been leading and managing divisions within companies such as Disney, NBCUniversal, and Sony for over 20 years. Dr. Turner was most recently EVP and head of TriStar Television, the boutique label of Sony Pictures Television. She was responsible for developing and producing bold, new stories from diverse perspectives, and championing underrepresented stories driving cultural conversations airing on premium cable and streaming platforms. In addition to creative oversight of the label, Dr. Turner was responsible for setting TriStar’s overall strategy and leading and managing TriStar’s operations. Dr. Turner has worked on many hit TV shows throughout her career including THE GOOD DOCTOR, THE BLACKLIST, THE BOYS, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, GREY’S ANATOMY and LOST.
