Vote YES on the Strike Authorization

The WGA Negotiating Committee, the WGAE Council and WGAW Board unanimously called on eligible voting members in the Film/Television/Streaming Sector to VOTE YES on the strike authorization vote. Eligible members can vote here. The voting deadline is 12:00 p.m. EDT on Monday, April 17, 2023.

Your support is critical to giving our negotiators the leverage they need to make the strongest possible deal before the current MBA expires on May 1, or the authority to call a strike if the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) are unwilling to meet our reasonable demands.

FTS members can read the email announcing the vote and why it is necessary here.

For more information, read our strike authorization vote FAQ. Show your support online by using our social media toolkit.

If you are a Guild member in the Broadcast/Cable/Streaming News sector, Online Media sector, or a non-voting member of the Film/Television/Streaming sector, here is an FAQ and a video explainer from WGAE Vice Presidents Kathy McGee and Sara David which outline what an MBA strike in the Film/Television/Streaming sector would mean for all Guild members, and provide more information for Guild members about negotiations and strike preparation.

If the WGA does not reach a deal with AMPTP, Guild members who work under the MBA would be required to go on strike, but this is not the case for members who work in broadcast TV, radio, or streaming news, online media, nonfiction podcasts, nonfiction television, or public television. In fact, if you are a member of those sectors, you most likely work under contracts with no-strike clauses that prohibit you from striking.

However, all Guild members will still be required to abide by any MBA strike rules which would prevent the performance of writing services for struck companies. That means no Guild member, in any sector, can be hired to write TV or movie scripts, nor to sell or option any scripts. These strike rules will be distributed in the event of a strike.
