As an extra security measure, we ask you to please verify your SSN
SSN

We strongly believe in protecting our members' data, hence we've compiled a small FAQ regarding giving out your SSN over the internet. Read below:

Q: Why do you need my SSN?
A: Since we provide as a service to our members a lot of personal information (i.e. WGAE Dues, Residuals, etc...), we need to undoubtedly validate your identity.

Q: Isn't it a security risk to give my SSN over the internet?
A: In principle: yes, unless you absolutely trust the identity of the web site and it uses strong encryption to protect your data.

Q: What kind of encryption does the WGAE site use?
A: We use 128 bit encryption, which is the strongest level of encryption available for electronic transactions which use web browsers on the internet.

Q: Do you actually store my SSN on your web server?
A: We absolutely do not. We actually encrypt your SSN using a one-way hash function and verify the resulting string.

Q: What's a one-way hash function and how secure is it?
A: A one-way hash function is a cryptographic algorithm that generates a fixed string from a text message. The "one-way" means that it is extremely difficult to turn the fixed string back into the original text message. This is a good source of cryptography related information (quite detailed.)
